Rural Eastern Cape school takes a giant leap forward

Leadership development, the provision of a feeding scheme kitchen, proper administration facilities, and health and sanitation programmes are just some of the holistic interventions that helped Siwali Secondary School, achieve a 94% pass rate.  Located inland from the wild coast in the remote area of Lusikisiki, this school improved by over 30% since it was adopted in 2013 by Adopt-a-School Foundation and the IDC. 85% of learners obtained bachelor or diplomas passes.

Adopt-a-School also implemented targeted school-based educator support programmes which empower Maths and Science teachers through content development and ongoing assessment; the facilitation of co-teaching and planning and the integration of ICT into content areas by providing tools in the Maths and Science labs.

This contributed to a significant improvement of 36% in Physical Science and 22% in Mathematics.
