Last year, the Adopt-a-School Foundation kicked off various infrastructure projects under difficult lockdown conditions. The projects funded by the Industrial Development Corporation included constructing dining and nutrition centres for Boithaopo Secondary School in Kraaipan, North West, Monwbisi High School in De Aar, Northern Cape and Phagamang Secondary School in Bochum, Limpopo.
The construction project at Phagamang Secondary School also included a fully-resourced media centre. In the same province, about 200 kilometres from Phagamang, a fully-resourced science laboratory was completed at Tshivhase Secondary School.
These structures were built as part of a partnership established with the Industrial Development Corporation that supports 30 schools across all nine provinces in South Africa.
The ablution facility projects at Madikoti-Potsoa, Bodutlulo and Tlouatiba Primary Schools in Limpopo was recently completed. The project was supported by proceeds from the 2020 Presidential Golf Day. The Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation was the beneficiary of the Presidential Golf Day, and the funds raised were aligned to the implementation of the SAFE programme which is committed to eradicating pit latrines in schools.
At Boitekong and Meriti Secondary Schools, located in two townships outside of Rustenburg, a total of 18 classrooms were renovated. Merafe Resources supported the refurbishment of these structures.
