The Adopt-a-School Foundation is proud to announce the successful completion of 13 transformative projects across six schools in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng, all made possible through the support of African Bank.
These projects included the construction of two dining and nutrition centres, ablution facilities, solar-powered boreholes, and visual support programmes. Assistive devices were provided to enhance teaching and learning for learners with special needs. Infrastructure upgrades such as paved walkways, improved water drainage systems, and water quality testing have significantly improved the learning environment for over 3,171 learners. Additionally, the projects created 80 temporary jobs and supported 24 SMMEs, empowering local communities economically.
As part of African Bank’s commitment to fostering inclusive communities, these initiatives have provided economic opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers alike. Furthermore, 133 school leaders and educators benefited from professional development programmes, equipping them to better support learners and improve educational outcomes.
A standout feature of these projects was the integration of sustainable, energy-efficient designs. Schools like Indawana, Lower Ndakana, Fukama, and Hlokohloko Primary now benefit from solar-powered boreholes, natural lighting, and ventilation systems. These enhancements reduce electricity consumption, improve air quality in dining and ablution facilities, and create healthier, more comfortable learning environments while promoting environmental sustainability.
To bridge the digital divide in South Africa’s education, educators were trained to incorporate Information and Communication Technology tools into their teaching practices. This training has empowered educators to deliver interactive and engaging lessons, better preparing learners for the demands of the digital age.
African Bank’s commitment to diversity and inclusion was also evident through its support for Thembinkosi LSEN School. By providing assistive technology and adaptive tools, the initiative increased learner independence and improved essential skills for learners with special needs.
Through the successful completion of these projects, African Bank has made a tangible, lasting impact on the lives of learners, educators, and communities in the KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and Eastern Cape Provinces. By focusing on sustainable development, job creation, and educational advancement, we are collectively paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for South Africa.
