Back to School Party 2020

Adopt-a-School Foundation has had the pleasure of hosting thirteen Back to School Parties since 2007. Through your generous commitment to improving the quality of education, these parties have continued to grow in both prominence and support each year.  The Back to School Parties has been critical to funding the work of the Foundation. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is with great sadness that the 14th Back to School Party has been cancelled.

The Foundation continues to implement our Whole School Development model in over 600 schools across the country. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the Foundation’s financial sustainability, made even worst with the cancellation of the Back to School Party. The Back to School Party has safeguarded salaries and operational costs and allowed us to implement critical projects in schools across the country.  The decision to cancel was a difficult choice to make.

Your support for the Foundation and our schools has never been more vital. These are unprecedented times and the academic year has been hugely disrupted.

Our schools have faced significant challenges in the delivery of teaching and learning; including increases in infections, access to ICT services and the prevalence of learners and educators with comorbidities. This is the time when schools and the future leaders of this country need you, and Adopt-a-School, the most. It is important for us to stand united and rally support for education in South Africa. Many of our schools and learners are the most vulnerable and need our help to get through this devastating pandemic. Adopt-a-School Foundation is kindly requesting, that if you are able to and did reserve budget for the Back to School Party, please may you consider donating directly to the Foundation.

The Foundation is looking into hosting several smaller events towards the end of the year. The plans for these events are well underway and will be communicated to you in due course.

Chief Executive Officer Message

Welcome to our first newsletter for the year. We are proud and excited to share with you all the activities from the last few months to date, encompassing our 20-year milestone celebrations and our matric results. It has been a busy time for the Foundation. We closed our 20-year celebrations at the beginning of this year, handing over school shoes to hundreds of learners. We have had multiple infrastructure handovers and have been delivering spectacles, hearing aids and ICT equipment to schools. Further, we were thrilled to host the Thari Biennial Conference for the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation and two fundraising initiatives, the Back to School Party and a fundraising dinner in London.
