Message from the Director May 2020

Welcome to our first newsletter for the year. 2020 is proving to be an unsettling year ahead with our country facing the global pandemic, COVID-19.

We trust you are safe and will enjoy reading our latest achievements from the last quarter. This includes the remarkable performance of our 2019 Matric Class, National Teachers Awards, Kanana Early Childhood Development Centre Launch by the First Lady, Presidential Golf Challenge 2020, School Health Week and some important information about COVID-19.

Adopt-a-School Foundation commends the Chairperson of Adopt-a-School and President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramapahosa, on the decisive action taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We urge all South Africans to take the National Lockdown levels very seriously and abide by the set regulation of the lockdown. Our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones to COVID-19 in South Africa and the many families in the world.

We have already put into action several vital plans to minimise the threat of this virus and to ensure the safety of our employees and stakeholders. The Adopt-a-School Foundation employees are working from home as we are mindful of the critical role we play in society and the 615 schools we serve. Our teams continue with their deliverables remotely to ensure continuity of Whole School Development and Thari post this pandemic. We are confident that a healthy, bright future awaits if we keep working together.

COVID-19 is sprouting quickly. However, this is not a time to panic. We need to stay positive and remain calm while monitoring the COVID-19 developments in our country and the globe. Let us unite and where we can support those negatively impacted. As an organisation that thrives on partnerships, we encourage support of the work of the Foundation and the Solidarity Fund.

In the words of our President, “This too shall pass. We shall overcome. We are South Africans.”

Be safe and remain calm through this difficult time.
Steven Lebere
