Olifantsvlei primary school is situated in Eikenhof, in the south of Johannesburg. The school started operating in the early 60s in a cowshed. It was started predominantly for the children of the employees of the Johannesburg City Council. All the classrooms and one ablution block were built from donations. The Gauteng Department of Education built a computer laboratory and two additional ablution blocks. The school now caters for children from the rural farming communities and informal settlements in Eikenhof. The majority of the parents are either unemployed or make a living through piece jobs.
