Handing out school shoes to learners at Qhobosheane Primary School in Soweto marked the end of the Adopt-a-School Foundation’s successful 20th anniversary.

Commemorating two decades of building an inclusive society through education, we pride ourselves on implementing our Whole School Development (WSD) model, a sustainable and innovative model that supports over 600 schools across the country. In addition to implementing the WSD model, we host events that enable partners to take action and inspire change.

In celebration of our 20th anniversary, we launched the exciting school shoe campaign to provide urgent and necessary shoes and resources for learners across the country throughout the year 2022 and early 2023. This came to fruition with the last of the allocated shoes being handed to learners at Qhobosheane.

The Foundation entered into a campaign partnership with Bathu, a locally grown and internationally renowned sneaker brand, to champion this school shoe campaign. During the course of 2022, more than 900 pairs of shoes were allocated to learners from nine schools in North West, Gauteng and Free State. They were delivered to the learners during the month of January 2023 on time for Back to School 2023.

Some of the Foundation’s longest supporters, including Royal Haskoning DHV, Merafe Resources, Tamela Capital, Trust Blu Foundation (Blue Label Telecoms), Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, Lesedi Power, Back to School Party Blazers and Bathu, funded the shoes.

Among the schools that benefitted were Qhobosheane Primary School, Eketsang High School in Katlehong, Gauteng, Kgabareng Secondary School in Viljoenskroen, Free State and Meriti Secondary School and Boitekong Secondary School in North West.

Isu’Lihle Primary, Beyers Naude High School, Thuthukuzekani Primary, Tsakani Primary and Bathabile Primary – all in Gauteng – were also beneficiaries.
