KST hands over completed infrastructure

On 7 February, KST and the Free State Department of Education hosted a schools infrastructure launch event in Kroonstad showcasing the success of the public/private sector collaborative partnership which is fast tracking education development in the Free State.

The partnership handed over a fully resourced library to Thakameso Combined School, three classrooms and renovated ablution facilities to Ntha Primary School, and a Grade R Facility to Phomolong Primary School in Kroonstad.   The first bricks were laid at Ntha Primary School eight months ago and since then over 60 schools have received investments in their infrastructure.   17 new structures are 80% complete and 11 are complete and in use.

The launch was attended by Adopt-a-School Foundation Chairperson, Cyril Ramaphosa, Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe, Kagiso Trust Chairman Reverend Frank Chikane and a number of other dignitaries, partners and education experts.

The achievements to date go far beyond brick and mortar. Already over 1300 educators from close to 100 schools have benefitted from development programmes in mathematics, science, numeracy and literacy and over 70 600 learners have been reached.

About 16 000 learners have had their eyesight tested, with over 530 learners receiving prescribed spectacles. Click here
