A new science laboratory for Ngwathe Secondary School

On 17 October 2015, Adopt-a-School and the IDC, together with the MEC for Education in the Free State, officially handed over a fully resourced science lab to Ngwathe Secondary School, in the township of Ngwathe near Kroonstad.

This investment is part of a continued effort by Adopt-a-School Foundation and the IDC to transform the education experience in 30 rural schools across South Africa.

The development at Ngwathe Secondary School has included the renovations of classrooms and ablution facility and the building of a science laboratory. Four mathematics and science educators have been through professional development programmes and trained in science laboratory management and how to use the equipment. 182 science learners and 275 mathematics learners have benefitted from these development programmes.

This project has already had a positive economic impact on the local community. During the building of these facilities 9 temporary jobs were created and given to unemployed parents of learners at the school.
