On the 15 March 2019 the Department of Basic Education hosted its 6th National Annual Education Excellence Awards. Our adopted Maiketso Primary School funded by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) received 1st position for the Most Improved Full Service School in the prestigious Inclusive Education category nationally. Full Service schools are those that implement the framework policy from the Department of Education’s White Paper 6: Special Needs Education, Building an Inclusive Education and Training System.

Mr Skhosana, the chairperson of the school-based support team, which implements the Full Service programme, received the award. The school won 20 tablets and a laptop. Mr Skhosana was awarded for his teaching style and the implementation of the Full Service intervention, which contributed to the improvement of the culture of the school.  The principal, Mrs Leepile, went to the UK shortly on his behalf as part of the benefits associated with the competition.

Maiketso Primary school was adopted in 2014 by IDC. Through this partnership, the primary school has received a strategic planning, leadership, governance and teambuilding programme; Mathematics and Literacy educator development and classroom based support programme for Grade 4-7 educators, Visual support programme and ICT centre.
