Kanana Early Childhood Development Launch

The launch of the Kanana Community Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre was held on 12 March 2020 in Orkney, North West.  In 2017 Aspen Pharmacare partnered with the North West Department of Social Development and Adopt-a-School Foundation to build a brick and mortar ECD structure for the community of Kanana.

This investment was in response to growing concerns about the spread of Tuberculosis in the township.  The health concerns were exacerbated by severely cramped conditions in three old ECD centres, where up to 50 children were being taught in one shack.

The new Kanana ECD centre houses three previously separate ECD centre’s servicing the Kanana community:  Tswelapele Preschool, Ntataise Preschool and Happy Kids Preschool.   The centre caters for 130 preschool learners and includes four classrooms, an ablution facility, a kitchen, a sickroom, an office and storage facility and a play area.

The event was attended by the First Lady, Dr Tshepo Motsepe; Aspen Pharmacare Senior Executive, Stravos Nicolaou; AAS Board Members, Donné Nicol and Mmabatho Maboya, AAS Exco, as well as representatives of the North West Department of Social Development and City of Motlotsana.
