The spectacle handover was part of a broader Visual Support Programme funded by Merafe Resources, which screened over 2 900 learners. At the handover, learners attended with their parents who were jointly trained on how to take care of the spectacles.

Training was facilitated by Premier Optical whom conducted the screening and provided spectacles. Merafe Resources attended the handover at Boitekong Secondary School, whom addressed and motivated the learners as potential future bursary applicants and employees of Merafe Resources. Stakeholders at this event included HOD from the Department of Basic Education, Department of Social Development, Department of Health and South African Police Services.
