Curriculum Development in the foundation phase, as part of the Whole School Development model, aims to support educator development, including knowledge and implementation of developing literacy and numeracy skills in the classroom. 77 Foundation-phase educators from eight primary schools were trained to improve curriculum delivery in Grade R classrooms, with the aim of promoting numeracy and literacy; creating environments in the classroom that produce learners who understand and comprehend curricula outcomes.

Schools that received this training include Maiketso Primary School in Northwest, Nomnekane Primary School in Gauteng, Ntsoanatsatsi Public Primary School in Free State, Shwashweni Primary School in KwaZulu-Natal, Nkonkwana Junior Secondary in Eastern Cape School and Parkview Primary School in Western Cape are part of 30 schools supported by the Industrial Development Corporation.
