The year 2021 was a challenging year, with the 2021 Matric Class of 2021 being the second cohort to write the NSC examinations under COVID-19 protocols. The Class of 2021 has experienced significant disruptions in teaching and learning due to the pandemic. Despite these challenges, schools forged ahead, with the support of the Department of Basic Education and multiple stakeholders, with their examination

Adopt-a-School Foundation would like to take this moment to applaud our Matric Class of 2021 for their exceptional results. Our schools achieved a pass rate of 80%, consistent with the pass rate of 80% in the previous year. These results are a tremendous contribution to the country’s National Matric pass rate of 76.4%. Our schools and learners worked very hard towards this achievement, and we are certainly proud of them.

We are also thrilled by the excellent performance of our learners, who excelled at provincial and district levels. Amongst the Adopt-a-School Foundation 2021 Matric Class, are Luyanda Mbeje and Mthokosizi Mlamuli Ndlamini from Bizimali High School in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal. Bizimali was adopted by the IDC and has benefitted from Whole School Development for several years.

Mthokozisi achieved 3rd position in the King Cetshwayo District while Luyanda was ranked 5th. Mthokozisi achieved seven distinctions and has been accepted at Sefako Makgatho University to study medicine. Luyanda achieved eight distinctions and has also been accepted at Sefako Makgatho University for medicine.

Additionally, three learners and the School Principal from IDC-supported Tshivhase Secondary School were recognised at the Limpopo Provincial Awards. The School Principal, Mr Fhatuwani Maselesele, received the Top Principal Award in the Province. One of the learners, Mukhunyeledzi Muthuphei, was recognised as a top performer in Mathematics with a 100% pass mark. This is alongside seven other distinctions.

Muthuphei has been accepted at Wits University to study Computer Science and has applied for a few bursaries. Ndou Mukhathutsheli was recognised for his top performance in social sciences, achieving 100% and seven distinctions. He has also been accepted at Wits University to study Computer Science. Muhanelwa Ntikedzeni was recognised as a top learner in Physical Science, as he achieved 100% alongside seven distinctions.

The results of the AAS Matric Class of 2021 are a triumph and a clear indication that the Foundation’s Whole School Development model continues to produce excellent results. Amongst our tremendous achievements, we would like to applaud our Top 20 performing schools, which reached between the 90% to a 100% threshold.
