Ablution Blocks Handover at Thembinkosi LSEN

It was a heartwarming moment for everyone present at Thembinkosi LSEN School in Tembisa on the 25th of January. The African Bank team, alongside our Infrastructure team, handed over a newly built mobile ablution block that accommodates learners with special needs, which was a significant relief for the school. The day’s programme included an address from Edna Montse, Group Chief Transformation and Sustainability Officer at African Bank and the local councillor. The school choir and dancers were inspiring in their showcase of talents, demonstrating that disabilities are not a barrier to pursuing one’s passions. Their determination and passion are shining examples of what can be achieved when one sets their mind to it.

Our team then handed over the Ablution Blocks to the school principal and representatives, who emphasised how great it was to finally have ablution blocks that restored the dignity of the learners who had challenges using unspecialised restrooms. The learners also received new school uniforms, shoes, and backpacks filled with stationery and books, a great source of joy. The funder also provided “talking” pens that assist learners with reading difficulties. This feature is an innovative way to help those unable to read. By allowing learners to move their pens through a book and have the pen read aloud for them, this technology promotes accessibility and independence. This technology is an excellent step towards creating an inclusive learning environment for all learners.
