World Read Aloud Day

On the 7th of February, in celebration of World Read Aloud Day, we had the incredible pleasure of visiting Lot Phalatse Primary School in the Northwest with Pokello Education and Training Solutions, our service provider who has been conducting a literacy and numeracy programme at the school since October 2022. Funded by Sasria as part of our Whole School Development (WSD) model, this programme has been making a positive impact at the school.

The school has implemented a 30-minute Drop-and-Read class weekly. During this time, a specific grade or reading club takes turns reading out loud to their classmates, creating an inclusive environment where everyone can share their love for reading.

The programme commenced with an engaging and interactive demonstration by the learners. The demonstration involved a group of students from each grade reading to their schoolmates, and the intermediate phase learners particularly stood out with their impressive reading skills. The learners from the foundation phase struggled a bit with reading, but they displayed their remarkable talents in storytelling through interpreting images.

In addition, the school received a generous donation of 4,200 pencils and 600 pens to help the learners with their writing activities.

It was beautiful to witness the learners confidently interpret and read the books. The learners were reminded of the power of reading and the importance of promoting literacy at the school and in their communities.
