2021 was a difficult year for both the Foundation and the country. Despite the challenges faced, we experienced numerous successes and achieved multiple milestones.

Adopt-a-School Foundation announced an exciting partnership with ChairClub, a proudly South African and local chair manufacturer, in May 2020. The campaign Buy One, Give One, committed that every chair sold from its office chair range, a school chair was donated to disadvantaged schools in rural and urban communities across the country.

Despite yet another challenging year, the Matric Class of 2021 achieved a pass rate of 76.4%, a 0.2% increase from the 76.2% achieved in the previous year. This was not an easy achievement, considering the Class of 2021 has endured restrictions and disruptions for two consecutive years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Adopt-a-School Foundation, a partner entity of Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, celebrates the Class of 2021 and commends it for its resilience and agility. 

On the 20th and 21st of October, the Foundation hosted a spectacles handover that benefited 288 learners. The spectacle handover was part of a broader Visual Support Programme funded by Merafe Resources, which screened over 2 900 learners. On the 15 October, the Foundation handed over a durable and innovative water station and sanitation packs to Lot Phalatse Primary School in Hebron, outside Pretoria. On the 13 October and 20 October, we further hosted a tablets handover at Nomnekane and Diepsloot Primary School. All these projects are part of the COVID-19 relief interventions

Under-resourced schools require more furniture to accommodate learners safely and in accordance with COVID-19 safety rules.ChairClub teamed up with Adopt-a-School Foundation last year to donate comfortable world-class school chairs to under-resourced schools in rural and urban communities. The campaign pledged to donate one classroom chair for each office chair sold across their entire product line.

The Thari Programme, in support of Women and Children, hosted a Career Day for Diepsloot Combined School Grade 12 learners on 13 August. In September, the Foundation partnered with the South African National Geography Olympiad and encouraged 20 schools to enter the Olympiad competition.
