Welcome to our second newsletter for the year. We are thrilled to share with you our activities from the month of May to date. It has been a busy time for the Foundation with Whole School Development projects underway at various schools. We are also excited to have hosted our 11th Back to School for Mandela Day initiative at multiple schools in the month of July.  Aligned with the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s call for sustainable action, from the 14th to the 19th of July the Adopt-a-School Foundation hosted a day of collective active citizenship at Tsakani Primary School in Krugersdorp, Nageng Primary School in Vosloorus and Fukama Primary School in Vanderbijlpark.

At Tsakani Primary School the Foundation conducted renovations and championed a school shoe drive that will further benefit three other schools in need.  The Campaign received support from Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, BP Southern Africa, Phoenix Contact, Royal Haskoning DHV and Merafe Resources.  Nageng Primary School received renovations funded by Siqalo Foods and Fukama Primary School benefitted from renovations funded by African Bank. Overall, the Back to School for Mandela Day initiative benefitted 3 528 learners. We would like to thank all the donors involved including event sponsors such as A2Z Technologies, Broadway Sweets, Cashbuild, Chairclub, Future Life, Jumbo Brands, Krispy Kreme and Premier Optical.

The next event on our calendar is the Back to School Party fundraiser. Unfortunately, to accommodate the current economic climate the Foundation will not be hosting the Back to School Party but will rather proceed with a cost-effective Fundraising Dinner. At R4 500 a seat and R45 000 a table, the event will still be unique, fun and light-hearted. We encourage all our supporters and partners to be part of this initiative. Despite the challenging economic times, the Foundation still wishes to host you, its most important stakeholders, in a relaxed environment, celebrating the great strides achieved together in the education sector and raising the much-needed funds to continue our work.
